More Space Place History- Wall Bed Furniture

One could say the roots of the More Space Place began in 1894, in a tiny San Francisco apartment. Here, bachelor William L. Murphy simply wanted to invite women into his one-room apartment. Society conventions of the time, however, frowned upon single women keeping company with a man where a bed was in sight. So Murphy invented a bed that disappeared.

Well some things never change: space is still at a premium.

Our More Space Place part of the story began in the early 1980′s as a single retail location. By 1989 that location, along with several other wall bed companies banded together to form Murphy Bed Centers of America. In 1995, with seven locations, the name of the company was changed to More Space Place, because this name better reflected the larger product line the company offered.

The creation of the modern versions of William Murphy’s beds involved much more intricate cabinetry and ingenious design. The path to these innovations fashioned our extensive line of cabinetry utilizing custom modular construction. This highly adaptable furniture line has the ability to offer multiple opportunities for space-saving or organizing solutions in homes, from custom closets, to home offices, garages, utility rooms, entertainment centers, and much more.

Today, the company continues to grow and has nearly 50 stores which are locally owned and operated by members of the communities in which they serve.
