With spring fast approaching, it’s time to start de-cluttering and organizing your home! More Space Place wants to help you with this process. Follow along as we walk you through 3 spring cleaning tips!
Plan It Out
Before you begin, take the time to outline a schedule for your spring cleaning. You could do one room a day until you’re finished, or tackle it all in one weekend. Either way, establishing a schedule will help you stay on track and keep you from procrastinating. Otherwise, before you know it, October will have arrived and you will have never gotten around to cleaning out the pantry.
Make Choices
Once you’ve established your schedule and begin to go through your home, it’s time to decide which items in your home you will keep, sell, donate, or throw away. Designate boxes to better organize each category. It’s great to do this before actually cleaning because as you get rid of the clutter, you’ll end up with a lot less to clean at the end of the day. If you are having difficulty deciding if something should go, consider when you last used it, if it has sentimental value, and whether or not you might get more satisfaction out of selling it or donating it than keeping it.
Create Systems and Processes
One of the best ways to help your spring cleaning efforts to stick is to identify pain points in your life and then find long-term solutions to help alleviate them. For example, if your living room is often in disarray with books, games, magazines, toys, crafts, or blankets thrown around the floor, we can recommend an easy organizational solution. Entertainment units that include shelving or cubbies where you can easily store items of the same group or items belonging to each individual family member can encourage quick organization.
Similarly, if you notice that you throw your bag and coat onto the couch when you arrive home and they never get put away, talk to us about customized pieces to keep you organized as soon as you walk in the door. Coat racks, entryway tables, benches, and baskets can prevent items from cluttering countertops, couches, and hallways. Learn more about modified mudroom units with one of our experts.
We often hear from homeowners that they tackle spring cleaning, are satisfied with the result, but quickly revert to their mess-making tendencies immediately afterward. By instituting processes that will encourage organization and help stop clutter before it has a chance to accumulate, your spring-cleaning will last long after the springtime flowers have wilted.
